Lenora de Barros presents the series ping-poems - regarding forms, at Galeria Millan, from the 14th to the 17th of October. In February of this year, the series was shown in SoloProjects Focus Latin America section at ARCOmadrid, curated by Emiliano Valdés, Kiki Mazzucchelli and Miguel A. López. For the artist, the work proposes a dialogue with the constructivist tradition: “this series is being developed since 1990. Since then, the ping-pong elements created a 'imaginary game' inside my work”. These experiences constitute a large body of work in which it weaves a remarkable poetic artist aspects, in game with the constructivist tradition, but also with pop and conceptual. These works come from that ludic universe exposed in 1990, 2000 and 2002. The work mesa para ping-poem (2002) was part of the exhibition " (What’s New, anew Pussycket?” and the show was assembled and open so that visitors could throw matches of "ping-poem". In this pocket exhibition, the work will be presented as a wall element, with bent and embedded feet. For Lenora, "each piece of the series turns out to materialize a play of 'ping-poem" im-possible. "
In addition to ping-poems, the gallery will be showing for the first time, the video volume morto, an unfolding from a sound installation in April 2015, through the Galeria Millan in partnership with Ricardo Kugelmas and Broadway 1602 Gallery. The work was inspired by the water crisis that haunts the city of São Paulo. In an empty swimming pool, ping-pong balls were gathered and launched. These balls have already been part of a previous work of the artist: ping-poems series (1994-2000). During many years these balls were stored at the artist’s studio as a kind of personal “dead material”. And on Saturday, the 17th, Lenora de Barros performs a guided tour at 11:30 am.
On 26 November, Lenora de Barros releases the book o que use - separa, at Galeria Millan. The book is part of the series ponto e vírgula, in which artists are invited to create a work from a single format: 128 pages; 15,5 x 23 cm.
