(Rio de Janeiro / RJ, 1979) Otavio Schipper lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. He holds a degree in Physics from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Schipper participated in the following exhibitions: “Arte Brasileira Hoje” (Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, 2005), and "Nova Arte Nova" (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil RJ/SP, 2008). In 2007, his first solo exhibition, “Edge of Folds”, took place at the Galeria Millan in São Paulo. In 2008 “Fluid Trajectories” was held at Rio de Janeiro’s Paço Imperial. In 2010 he presented the sound installation “Mechanical Unconscious” at the Centro Cultural Maria Antonia in São Paulo and at Anita Schwartz Galeria, in Rio de Janeiro. In 2011 he showed the installation “Empty Voices” at Art Basel Miami Beach, in Florida, USA. In 2013, he participated in the Group Exhibition “The Wizard’s Chamber”, in Kunsthalle Winterthur, in Switzerland, and also spent two months at Residency Unlimited, New York, USA, where he developed and presented the work “The Trial”. In 2014, Schipper developed the site specific "Pequena Paisagem" at Galeria Millan. The artist’s practice includes installations, sound pieces, sculptures, objects, drawings and photographs – the ensemble of which proposes an investigation into the realms of language, and the communication between objects.
