(Rio de Janeiro / RJ, 1954) Multimedia artist and teacher. Nelson started to study painting with Ivan Serpa in 1971, and graduated in architecture in 1977. Initially worked with drawing and later, with sculpture. In 1989, received a grant from the French Ministry of Culture, for the exhibition held at the Charles Sablon Gallery (Paris, France). In 1991, he was granted the scholarship Vitae of Fine Arts (Brazil). In the 1990's, he started working with marble sculptures based on bodies or aspects of the human body. In 1994 he was resident artist at Curtin University (Perth, Australia) and at the Karratha College (Karratha, Australia). Also in 1994, he idealized the work "Mesas", with granite sculptures that make reference to interactions between nature and cultural objects. Returning to Brazil, in 1995, he created, with Luiz Felipe Sá, the video "O Oco", about his artistic production.
